As of January 1, 2020, the old cards containing Social Security numbers can no longer be used as an identifyer and should be destroyed as a safeguard to protect yourself from identity fraud.
With Annual Open Enrollment for health insurance being just around the corner, it’s important that you have your new Medicare identification. If your new card was destroyed, misplaced, or damaged you can ask for a replacement through the Social Security Administration.
